With great imagination, perseverance, and skill she was able to save the building and renovate it into the restaurant it is today. The Herb House was built on a ten-acre plot of land located on the east side of James Oglethorpe's original plan of the city of Savannah. The plot of land was assigned to become a botanical garden that modeled the Chelsea Botanical Garden in London, England. The garden, which was located beyond the bounds of today's buildings,[4] was dedicated to Oglethorpe's trustees, becoming known as the Trustees' Garden. At first blush, the Green Room doesn't seem like much of a themed bar but stay with us. It's tucked inside Burbank's Castaway, a hilltop restaurant that opened in 1962 with a Polynesian theme. The 2018 renovation ditched the island vibes for a clean, modern design but if you look closely, you'll spot nods to the movie industry. The menus look like screenplays and a Wilson volleyball with a bloody handprint on it rests on an otherwise chic shelf. What was once a reference to a deserted isle is now a sly reference to the 2000 Tom Hanks drama Castaway.
The building remained intact through the centuries, but lost its spark and had fallen into disuse after World War II. Even the employees of the bar have had their own strange happenings including glasses falling from shelves on their own and visions of apparitions wandering throughout the dining room. It the early days, The Pirate’s House was a haven for seamen, criminals, and other less-than-saintly figures. Many men found themselves in the bar for a brew or two and waking up on a ship hundreds of miles off of the coast.
